The Great Mountain

Mount Katahdin - Wikipedia

Day 0

Hey Readers,

Before we start I’ll get the age thing out of the way. I’m 10. Yes, I’m 10. But, before you judge me for that, remember you can’t say you don’t like crème brûlée (a whole other blog) if you’ve never tried it. Well, I guess you can, but I hope you’re, not a person that would not try something new. (Of course, I don’t try new movies, but you know what I mean).

Now that that’s out of the way let me fill you in …

I’m Cleo Davada Bowen-Wiggins, and this is a blog about a tradition on my Dad’s side my family. Some of my Dad’s family lives in Maine, and in Maine, there is Baxter state park, and in Baxter, there is mount Katahdin, the Mount Everest of Maine. My family’s tradition is when you come of age you climb to the peak of Mount Katahdin. Generations before me have climbed to the summit, and now it’s my turn. In two weeks I will be going to Maine, and you will be on the journey with me. So sit back, relax, and if you’re with me get ready for tomorrow’s blog post. See you soon readers👋🏼!

  1. Wow! Mountain climbing. Sounds wonderful and I know you will reach the top or should I say summit and experience the thrill to accomplishing such a feat. And even though you might not reach the top, remember that the effort expended is really the important achievement.
Enjoy Maine, keep cool and safe, and thank you for such a delightful blog.

    1. Enjoy your adventure Cleo! You’ve always been one to welcome new adventures, new interests, and new things generally . . . well, apart from new movies I guess. A good approach to living a full and rewarding life.

I’ll be hiking up Katahdin with you in spirit, and I hope one day in person too!

Once I’ve come of age, of course.

      1. thank you for your compliments and I will be more than happy to share some of my Lara bar with your conscious.

  6. Cleo, climbing ‘Mt. Everest’ is auspicious regardless of where you are. I’m so proud that you should set out to challenge yourself in this way by attempting Mt. Katahdin, as well as honoring the traditions of your family. I sense that Katahdin will not be your only ‘Everest’, but perhaps a metaphor for all the great things to come!

  7. You’ve been given the gift of writing as well as your love of nature! Must be in those family genes! I can’t wait to read about your adventures on the great mountain and the indelible memories made there. As in life, it is all about the journey. Take time to smell the roses( or whatever) along the way. Have fun and rejoice in God’s creations around you!
